Erik Presley Eli 360 and Victoria Ahlen Awoque at Learning Studio ACUI met many fantastic people during my visit in Texas. Together with Erik Presley, CEO Eli 360, we recorded this podcast on social media´s contribution to thinning global borders (10.5)

A few highlights:
- Be proud of who you are. Find people who inspire you. Social media enables you. Stay positive. The world will be yours.
- Keep the phone off when you are in a meeting and with your family. I personally use social media so that I can spend as much quality time as possible with my family.
- When you drink a coffee with your best friend. Keep the phone in your pocket. OK to take a photo to save the moment and tweet about it.
- Honesty is key.
- Find the community that share your passion. Listen, follow trends and start asking questions.

Thank you ACU for letting the use of the Learning Studio to record this podcast. What a great place to communicate witht the world, create digital storytelling and magic. If you want to see what has happened during the year that the AT&T studio has been at ACU here is a video:

From the numerous seminars, presentations and lectures we have given on and around social media; we find that a lot of organisations are seeking the holy grail of social media – the fast track”Silver Bullet” to success.

The secret to successful social media is not difficult, but the work required to get there can be. This is an area that most companies have difficulties getting to grips with. This and the fact that social media costs.

Today, social media is inherently seen as the big four: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Youtube, which take approximately 5 minutes to set-up and are free. If you were working with new media/website development at the beginning of web 1.0 in the mid 90′s this will sound familiar, “Websites are free and my cousin can design one – job done!

The “Silver Bullet”:
To get the most out of online, Web 2.0, activities, you must invest time and resources into understanding your organisation’s “why” to be able to develop a smart social strategy, to achieve set goals such as: engaging and listening to your fans, R&D, project collaboration, recruiting quality people, building your brand, driving sales, and serving your clients (through customer support).

Aiding Japan online

impact your world cnn aid japan onlineMy heart cries out for all people in the midst of their struggles in disaster areas in Japan. I surf the net, trying to find ways to help online. CNN:s guides me to Impact the world. I asked my friends on Twitter, Linked In and Facebook for help as help as well. My friend Katarina Brud started her own disaster relief through JustGiving.

I had the best work week. The top three highligts:
- Fredrik Toreskog’ charity concert on Tuesday evening. Passionate moments. Not only did he do social good, he will feed my life with positive energy for a long, long time. What an amazing man.
- We welcome Region Halland and Kungsbacka kommun as new clients.
- And to all of you who met me in Falköping this week, I look forward to continuing our discussions on how to get blogs, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts started!

I think we all deserve som Friday fun and a good laugh. Talk to you again next week ; )

I like LinkedIn since the service enables to keep my business network online up to date and all those received business card working for me. When I need to get in touch with people, the contact data I have might not be up to date. I then use the search field on the top right corner to: find a prospect, reconnect with a collegue or book a meeting with a person I met at a networking event or another marketing reason. With a few hundred contacts online, I sometimes wondered how they all interact and who enables the growth most. Today I found the answers thanks to a tip from Roger SittnikowLinkedIn Maps.

Rotary Kungsbacka January 2011 meeting about social media

Tonight I had the priviledge to give an introduction to social media to the Rotary club in Kungsbacka. The club was founded in November 1946. On my personal blog you will find a summary in Swedish. In short we talked about:

What is social media?
= Global online tool that enables everyday, instantaneous dialogue with one or several thousands of users.

Why go online?
Here, I recommend that you invest about 20 minutes to listen to Simon Sinek “Why”. Once you know why you should be online, why your company should invest and what the purpose is, then the process can continue.

Where is your passion?
Passion drives your brand  and fuels the process of creating a ripple effect online. Please feel free to ask us more about this!

Brief descriptions of the various channels:

  • Facebook – the world’s greatest dialogue channel, a winning formula is to ask lots of questions and to be honest
  • Twitter – a micro-blog (diary) where you have 140 characters to say what you want to say. For example: share links, make an offer, make frequent updates during a specific period of time.
  • LinkedIn – professional global business network. Activate all your past business card and put your update all your contacts here as well as your resume in your profile. All recruiters go here and look for contacts, staff, etc. Here you can  find active discussion groups within your area of expertise.
  • Blog – a diary that is updated frequently and where the readers can leave comments. The world’s best and biggest blog tool is WordPress. Eventually, all sites will be blogs since they are easier and more cost effective to  update.
  • YouTube – charge the movies you want to spread and show others
  • Flickr - here you upload images to share with others

Social media for social good.
Build your brand using social media and link it to social good actions, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). See the example Dove and Pepsi. On awoque we will talk more on the topic during the spring of 2011. Look out!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask them in the comment’s field! Be curious, dare to raise the question, focus on why and then action! Good luck!

Social media for social good.
