Once we looked to our role models, which in today’s society are often (so called) celebrities; for fashion, activities and to hear their opinions on various matters.
But social media is changing this and there is a new, emerging generation of web personalities whose activities are having impact, on and offline. These people are attracting audiences in there millions, which is creating a reverse influential pull. As we are now seeing more and more celebrities (and brands) courting these social media influencers, to get in (or cash in) on their passion, popularity and audiences.
Victoria posted a great social influencer reference case with Keenan Cahill and 50cent. I remember a video from 2006 with Johann Lippowitz (real name David Armand) performing his mime version of Natalie Imbruglia’s – Torn (below). But what made this for me, was when he performed together with Natalie on stage at a benefit concert.
Reverse influence also brings up the sticky question of authenticity, when social influencers start whoring themselves in return for merchandise, etc. But hey that’s’ a whole other post.
If you have any great examples of reverse influence, then please share it with us.
