Social Media Week

Did you know that the Social Media Week is during this week #38? Here is an excerpt from an interview with Craig Hepburn, Nokia’s global director of digital & social media:

What is Social Media Week all about?

Social Media Week (SMW) is a global platform that connects people, content, and conversation around emerging trends in social and mobile media. Delivered primarily through a network of internationally hosted biannual conferences and online through social and mobile media, Social Media Week brings hundreds of thousands of people together every year through learning experiences that aim to advance our understanding of social media’s role in society.

Social Media Week was held for the first time in February 2009 in New York City, and was launched as a “distributed conference”, with events taking place in locations throughout the city with organizations such as the New York Times, Wired, Razorfish and Nielsen. Over 2,500 people attended over forty individual events, and thousands more participated online.”

Talking about social media events, I must say that I look forward to WebCoast on March 16-18, 2012! Awoque was a silver sponsor in 2011.

1 års kalas awoque social media agencyToday we celebrate our 1st anniversary as a company. Hipp Hipp Hurraa!! We took our team members to Avalon for a social lunch and recollect some of the #High5 moments from this past year. Back at the office, we shared the traditional bottle of bubbly and treated ourselves with ice cream.

Here are a few of our highlight social media moments from the past year:
1) Our Saturday during Webcoast meeting all our peers within social media from all around Sweden.

2) Being one of the key actors in trending #mellanhandel to third place on Twitter during the event organized by Star Republic and Logica.

3) Our last day with the World Transplant Games at Slottskogsvallen and Trädgårdföreningen meeting fantastic, caring people from all over the world and together with them adding attention to the importance of taking a stand for organ donation.

And to all of our clients and people in our network we want to say “Thank You” for being a part of our journey! And to our wonderful staff members – you guys rock!
See you soon and let us create lots more #High5 in the months to come.

Arise and shine awoque award 2011 thina grotmark victoria ahlén paul williamss experts in social networking, we understand the power of this medium to evoke people to become involved in a good cause. One great example of this kind of passion is “Charity Water” there are countless others too and we are proud of you guys.

Whilst at WebCoast we decided to find a company/individual or group that was doing something about a cause they are passionate about. We found that person in Thina Grotmark, who drives a blog Beyond Sizes, which is dedicated to supporting and uplifting people who are of a lager size. As her blog says, “Love the skin you are in”. Thina, speaks openly about issues, fashion, food, heath, etc, and emphasizes acceptance to help promote better self-esteem amongst her audience. Thina, is on the right track, as her readership has risen to over a 1000 unique users/per day and in her home country of Sweden that isn’t half bad!

binero awoque på webcoast 2011 sponsorerLast week Awoque attended WebCoast in Göteborg, Sweden. We attended as participants but we also came as proud sponsors.  I cannot speak for the other sponsors but we wanted to ensure that everyone at the conference remembered Awoque in a positive, fun and energetic way. In this I think we hit a home run, or High 5, which has become some what of a mantra for Awoque, our clients, partners and others that engage with us.

What made Awoque’s sponsorship successful was our social attitude and approach. We spoke often with the organizers to ensure that our activities, competitions, etc. did not detract from the event. In fact, we worked hard to ensure we created added value for WebCoast, through interviews, tweets, facebook, YouTube films and more. Importantly, we engaged continuously with our audience.

In summary this targeted sponsored event enabled Awoque to:

- Enhance our corporate image/shape peer attitudes
- Be associated with high caliber companies
- Create positive publicity/heighten visibility
- Connect with key peers/recruitment opportunities

At Awoque, we participate the same way as we work; as socially as possible!

PS. Thanks to everyone who participated at WebCoast 2011 for making it a truly unique and fun event.

Webcoast successfully ended Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.

An unconference focusing on people’s passion for online activity and love for social networking that will leave behind happiness, a sense of belonging and smiles on most of the 200 participants.

My collegue Paul Williams said “I have experienced an atmosphere I have never felt before at a conference. It was a fantastic collection of peers in the same place for three days. I will continue learning and exploring all that was shared for weeks to come”.

If you want to experience the event after party with us check out photos from Flickr and broadcasts from Bambuser… And we will of course tell you more during the coming weeks.

PS. Thanks to bliss design who organised our competition logo “Rise and Shine”. More on that note later this week
